10 Scriptures for Calming Pregnancy Affirmations

My previous post listed 10 calming pregnancy affirmations see here. I am so excited to bring you Scriptures that connect to each affirmation to make your heart that much stronger Mama, and to remind you that you are fully capable and have been equipped by God to have a healthy pregnancy!

1. 3 John 1:2

We’re the best of friends, and I pray for good fortune in everything you do, and for your good health – that your everyday affairs prosper, as well as your soul!

Yes, God is invested in your health and he wants you to be doing well physically and spiritually. You can confidently speak and pray good health over your body and your child.

2. Job 10:11-12

Oh, that marvel of conception as you stirred together semen and ovum – what a miracle of skin and bone, muscle and brain! You gave me life itself, and incredible love. You watched and guarded every breath I took.

These words are so rich and descriptive, giving us an understanding that God is excited about the miracle happening inside of you. As you reverence that same miracle, your outlook will become joyful and expectant of good things to come.

3. Psalm 139:13

Oh yes, you shaped me first inside, then out; you formed me in my mother’s womb. I thank you, High God – you’re breathtaking! Body and soul, I am marvelously made!

I absolutely love the joy gushing out of this verse. Let that joy fill you as you celebrate the beauty and complexity of your body.

4. Philippians 4:6

Be anxious for nothing.

That is almost unheard of these days – being anxious for nothing. But what a superpower that is! Living worry-free, stress-free, anxiety-free. Mama, this is for you especially now. Not only is this attainable but you can actually live this way, by simply giving God all your anxieties. He can handle it.

5. Joshua 1:9

Be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.

You don’t have to walk this journey alone. God, who is very real and very close and very relatable wants to walk this journey with you. I can tell you from experience, that his strength is inexhaustible and on my worst days, he was as steady as ever. As always. I’ve never had a more faithful friend.

6. Psalm 127:3

Don’t you see that children are God’s best gift? The fruit of the womb his generous legacy?

See it all through this lense of gift-giving and receiving. The life growing inside of you is a gift and what an empowering, purposeful statement that is, because now you know that you have what it takes to be the mother that your child needs. God does not give gifts for no reason.

7. Song of Solomon 6:4

You’re as beautiful as Tirzah, city of delights, lovely as Jerusalem, city of dreams, the ravishing visions of my ecstasy.

Talk about going over and above that simple statement of being beautiful. If you are ever feeling not up to par, just remember that the God of the universe thinks you are absolutely, mind-blowingly gorgeous. Yep, it’s true. And we could stop right here. But there’s more…

You have the right to call yourself beautiful and be confident in that, because it’s true. Do me a favour and don’t try to be like the beauty standards we worship in magazines and TV shows. Just be you, girl. Your allure is unique and completely your own. So own it! Own that pregnancy glow like it’s nobody’s business.

8. Philippians 1:6

And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns.

Okay, firstly we are using this Scripture in the context that God will maintain the good work of pregnancy and nurturing that is happening in your body until the appointed time. But also, keep in mind Mama, that motherhood changes your life and those changes strengthen your character, your resilience, your patience and your capacity to love. And yes, all these positive changes continue to work in you until the day you see Jesus face to face.

9. Job 8:21

He will once again fill your mouth with laughter and your lips with shouts of joy.

Mama, I’m not sure if this pregnancy was expected or unplanned, so I can’t be sure that you were filled with joy when you found out the news. But let me tell you that whether it was worry, fear, anxiety or exhaustion that hit you, God’s promise is still the same. And if you were over-the-moon happy about the news, this promise is still for you. That’s why these affirmations are so important! They are for the good days and the not-so-good days; easy pick-me-ups that you can refer to when motherhood feels like a burden instead of a blessing.

10. 1 Peter 1:22

Love one another as if your lives depended on it.

That’s pretty much straight forward, and is so poignant for you as a mom; because yeah, right now your baby’s life does rely on your love. He or she is relying on your love for nourishment, for growth, for a warm environment, for protection.

And when your child is born, you’ll find that they will need your love even more. They need your love to help them define who they are, what they can do, what they can’t do, why and how to grow. Gosh, they need us. But Mama, you’ll find that you need them too. There is a special way that only a child can stretch your limitations to grow you and show you what you can do beyond your wildest dreams.

All of these Scriptures were used to mirror the previous post here and were written in either the MSG or NLT versions.
